As mentioned on the front page, it can be fairly difficult to select the photographer for your event (or any other vendor, for that matter). Your choice of photographer especially can make or break your occasion. He or she will be in charge of creating some of the most lasting memories of the occasion.
When looking through a photographer's presentation, pay special attention to the details and style of their work. Were they able to capture the moment and tell the story of what was really happening that day? Do their candid photographers really speak to you? Do they have a mixture of formal portraits, candids, artistic portraits, and detail shots that fit your style and personality? It is the final product that you receive that is important, so make sure you like the quality of the pictures and also make sure to see a complete album from a wedding if possible.
Do not underestimate the power of personality! It is very important for you to "click" with your photographer. Some of the best shots from your wedding will be taken during very intimate moments. You need to feel comfortable around this person, as they will be present the entire day from when you first see each other to when mom is crying during the father/daughter dance. The photographer will be interacting with your family and friends throughout the day, therefore it is very important to find someone who can easily interact with your guests. This person should be assertive when needed, yet relaxed enough so that everyone is smiling and having a good time.
